Welcome to an organization that supports true family values. PFLAG (p-flag) is a worldwide, non-profit, volunteer and community-based organization of parents, family and friends of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgendered persons. It began in 1972, when one mother marched in the gay pride parade in New York supporting her gay son.  Jeanne Manford carried a placard that said, "Parents of Gays: Unite in Support for our Children."  It grew from there. One person can make a difference.

The national organizational was founded in 1981 by 30 parents representing groups across the United States. PFLAG now represents more than 250,000 members and speaks for thousands of others. PFLAG affiliates are located in over 500 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and eleven other countries. PFLAG is not affiliated with any ethnic, religious, economic or political group. Our purpose is to provide confidential help to families and friends to understand sexual orientation and gender identity while helping to raise awareness and acceptance.

In Atlanta, we are a group of parents, families, friends, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgendered people who are committed to giving support to each other as we discover and understand more about being human. Our purpose is to help change attitudes and to create an environment of understanding so that our gay family members and friends can live with dignity and respect. We accomplish this mission through SUPPORT, EDUCATION, and ADVOCACY.

A few of us have been members since the 1980s. Some of us embrace our gay children and friends or celebrate our own diversity and as a result have experienced a richer understanding of life. Some of us have only recently discovered that our child or someone else we love is gay. Still others of us are struggling with coming out to parents or co-workers. All of us had a first PFLAG meeting.

Everyone is welcome at our meetings. Along with parents and GLBT people, these meetings also include allies, children, spouses, grandparents, and siblings. PFLAG literature is available, we have a free lending library and our members receive a quarterly newsletter. Call us for confidential support, inquiries and referrals at 770-662-6475 or email us at [email protected].
