Besides giving support, PFLAG’s mission is also to educate the public and advocate for equality. To help accomplish these goals, we maintain a Speakers’ Bureau. PFLAG Atlanta has spoken at many different venues: local, state and national conventions, companies, schools, churches, community groups, etc. Our chapter also provides workshops in two specialized areas: Safe Schools and Straight for Equality.

Safe Schools
PFLAG works to make schools safer in ways no other group can. As parents, families and allies our voices carry tremendous weight in schools. Atlanta PFLAG recognizes that to transform our communities, we must first stop bias, harassment and violence in schools and create learning environments that are safe for all youth. The Safe Schools committee works with teachers and counselors to combat bullying and helps administrations develop and implement inclusive policies and curricula. Straight for Equality
Straight for Equality is a national PFLAG program developed to give people the tools to become allies to the GLBT community. It is a non-political opportunity for people who care about equality to discuss and resolve the barriers they face to becoming an ally, get specific recommendations for action, and learn how to become conduits for change. It is about starting everyday conversations that can gradually change attitudes and broaden the understanding that glbt rights are everyone’s concern. PFLAG Atlanta works on the local level to empower straight allies through presentations and workshops so their voices can be heard.
