Out with the Stars: The PFLAG Atlanta Fundraiser and Awards Dinner
We’re excited to announce the PFLAG Atlanta Fundraiser and Awards Dinner entitled Out with the Stars to be held on June 23rd 2012 at the gorgeous Labella at Lambert Place.
We will be honoring parents, educators, students and nonprofits that are doing outstanding work to increase equality and acceptance of the LGBT community in Atlanta.

What: The First Annual Out with the Stars Awards Dinner, hosted by PFLAG Atlanta
When: Saturday June 23, 2012 7:30pm to 10:30pm

Attire: Cocktail attire
Who: Open to ALL (ages 13 and up)* – parents, grandparents, siblings, teachers, students, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, LGBT affinity groups from corporations & small businesses and nonprofits
Why: PFLAG Atlanta will be celebrating 26 years of service to the Atlanta community by honoring our local Atlanta ‘STARS’ – our parents, educators, teachers, students and nonprofits that are doing extraordinary things to advance equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ community in Atlanta. Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a full catered dinner by the Rustic Gourmet followed by the Out with the Stars Awards presentation. We will also have a fabulous silent auction and raffles with lots of prizes to be won!
PFLAG Atlanta is a non-profit organization that supports, educates and advocates on behalf of Atlanta’s LGBTQ community. Help PFLAG Atlanta to continue to make a difference by attending Out with the Stars.
We are a registered 501(c)(3) and all donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Our Tax ID is 58-1798938.
* We want to make Out with the Stars an enjoyable, accessible experience for all ages. Minors must be chaperoned by at least one responsible adult in the group. No alcohol will be served to anyone under 21.

What can I expect at a PFLAG meeting?
No one who attends a meeting is ever made to feel that he or she must speak. We all know the value of quiet listening. And no one who does speak is expected to reveal more than he or she feels comfortable with. But in the warm and supportive atmosphere many newcomers find that they are able to put troubling thoughts and fears into words for the first time and receive reassurance, guidance and facts. All conversations are considered confidential and are not discussed beyond the room.
PFLAG literature is available as you come in and our free book and video library is open. Most meetings begin with a speaker or program. We break for refreshments, then meet for an hour of support in small groups. We generally end our meeting with a casual invitation to all interested parties to share dinner with us at a local restaurant.
Xanadu: A PFLAG Atlanta Benefit on May 24th – $5 off!
Actors Express is hosting a PFLAG Benefit Night at their May 24th production of Xanadu.
The surprise hit of the 2007-08 Broadway season roller skates its way into Actor’s Express in a frothy explosion of camp, comedy and disco! Xanadu uproariously sends up Olivia Newton-John’s notorious 1980 film of the same name, in which a feather-haired Greek muse with an Australian accent descends from Mount Olympus to modern-day California to help a hunky young man open a roller disco. Never has a movie begged more for parody – and Xanadu the musical delivers with delicious wit, pure fun and classic disco songs that will have you believing in magic and humming all the way home.

‘May is for the LGBT Media’ Journalists Panel on May 20
We will have a panel comprising of two GA Voice journalists – Dyana Bagby and Ryan Watkins as well as the incredible Betty Couvertier, who is the host of the LGBT related radio show Alternative Perspectives.

FREE PFLAG Facilitator Training: Want to start a local PFLAG Support Group?

Would you like to be a trained group facilitator for PFLAG?
Previous participants have reported that the facilitator training helps in their personal and professional lives too. The skills of reflective listening and empathy, when used correctly, help build trust, respect and produce a safe environment conducive to collaborative problem solving. We could all use some of those qualities at work and at home!
We are conducting two free facilitation trainingprograms conducted by long time PFLAG Atlanta member, Mary Lynn Merkle. She is an excellent resource and we are privileged to have her do this training for us. All our PFLAG Atlanta group facilitators are trained and many will attend again as an annual refresher.
The sessions will last 2 hours. The training is FREE to attend but requires an RSVP.
