This year was my first year being able to march in the Gay Pride Parade in Atlanta. I had the pleasure of marching with the PFLAG group from Atlanta. I will never forget the love that was pouring out from the parade watchers from the rooftops to the 10 plus people deep on the side lines. I felt I was so appreciated, words could never explain the way I felt during that march. I could not help but think of all the pain we family members as well as our children have endured through the years. I hope that we were able to help in a way that other family members can gain support and I hope that our children realized how much unconditional love we have for them. I loved representing my love and support for my daughter and her partner. Thank you.
I came to PFLAG three years ago when I was getting ready to come out to my parents. The PFLAG parents supported me and helped me through the process and I found a loving family. My parents are so much more accepting of me today because of what they learned at PFLAG.
If you have parents that are finding it hard to accept you, try to attend at least one or two support group meetings and see if they'll come along with you. I promise you, the results will be worth it! I got my loving family back!
I have no idea who this woman is, but she saw me crying while PFLAG marched during this years parade. She came over to me and hugged me and told me it was going to get better and not to give up on my parents. It was the most amazing experience I've ever had at pride. I hope that maybe she will somehow see this, and know how much I appreciated it.

After my first PFLAG meeting, I knew that other people felt just as I did and I wasn't alone. PFLAG helped me become a better mom and it has led to a wonderful relationship with my gay daughter.
PFLAG is a place of hope, peace, optimism, and encouragement. Helped me accept, enjoy, and stand up for my gay son. Demonstrated unconditional love and acceptance when my church refused to do so. Showed me how blessed I was to have a gay child. Showed me how liberating it is to accept people for who they are. Helped me break down the walls of judgement and indifference I had built against sexual orientation. Taught me to be compassionate to people who are different from me.
PFLAG was there for us 24 years ago when we needed support and education. We loved our daughter, but needed to learn more. We are still committed to PFLAG after 24 years. Now we feel privileged to be able to share our stories to help others.
I started out about 5 years ago with what seemed a "problem" and have discovered a whole new world of friendships, love and compassion in a world that sometimes seems less than kind about people with "differences". PFLAG has provided me with friends, advocates, and a real purpose. The rewards I have reaped have made me appreciate my child even more for opening up my life to a whole new dimension. Sitting in PFLAG meetings can be difficult in that parents have to tackle issues they may not be familiar with. Or GLBT people share their experiences with parents or loved ones who do not yet understand. But watching the journey and the love shown in the support groups is truly a blessing for all of us. My life has definitely changed for the better since discovering PFLAG and the wonderful people who participate. The goals of PFLAG-support, advocacy, and education- definitely changes lives and offers hope for a better future for all people, even if it's one person at a time.
